Both Roger and Tristan will be out and about across Auckland this week, as they start to get to know everyone in our industry and also enable us to increase our delivery of the MATES programme onto site.
Kevin will be bringing his well-honed leadership skills to MATES as he oversees our operational team out in the field. Kevin has over 30 years of industry experience from being trade qualified through to management. He hails from East Kilbride in Scotland, which is where he began his career in the building industry, Kevin’s latest endeavours include the establishment of Building Recruitment Ltd. which he has owned since 2005, he is also the current vice-president of Registered Master Builders Association Auckland.
Infrastructure New Zealand: ReBuilding Nations
At the Infrastructure New Zealand ReBuilding Nations Symposium MATES in Construction NZ were honoured to be awarded a special Outstanding Contribution to the Industry Award. MATES has worked hard this year to make a significant impact by introducing a programme of support spanning mental health and suicide prevention, that is available free to everyone across our industry.
The whole team at MATES are absolutely thrilled and very humbled to be recognised by the Infrastructure New Zealand judging panel. Thank you to Chairman Andrew Stevens for presenting us with the award and to the Infrastructure New Zealand Board, Sarah Lang and all of the team, thank you for making us feel so welcome at the symposium.
MATES BSM Roadie – The final few stops
The MATES team has been travelling on the road in the last couple of months as a part of the Building Skills Maintenence Roadshow. Starting off in late September, Slade and the MATES crew travelled from top to bottom of New Zealand. After delivering over 30 GAT’s to over 900 people, Slade and B signed off a long week in Wanaka.
BSM Roadshow has been a MATES first and we would like to thank everyone that has attended the Building Skills Maintenance and has participated in the General Awareness Training our team has provided.
Thank you to Dion Tapper who is the sole facilitator for the entire BSM roadshow and for including MATES this year as a part of the 6 part seminars.
MATES Second Industry ASIST
MATES recently inducted a second group into ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training). This means we now have an additional 26 people out in our industry that are able to help a person in crisis through to a safe plan while connecting them to help.
“The ASIST course was a great learning experience for myself. I believe it’s a skill everyone should have, industry or not.”
A big shout out to everyone that participated so willingly in the programme over the two days. Thank you to Caroline and Gary from A-OK for helping us bring this programme to our industry. As MATES grows here in NZ the demand for ASIST is increasing.
