Mates initiative ready to step up and help out of work tradies as wage subsidy ends
Mates initiative for tradies is ready to step up and help out of work tradies as the COVID-19 wage subsidy comes to an end.
Slade was on Seven Sharp on Wednesday night to talk about the MATES initiative for tradies. With the wage subsidy getting closer to ending, it can get especially tough for some on top of the other stresses of life.
The MATES initiative includes our General Awareness Training programs that we roll out to construction sites in Auckland and more recently across sites all around New Zealand.
“Everyone needs a good mate, especially when the going gets tough.” – Hilary Barry, Seven Sharp
MATES provides suicide prevention in construction through community development programmes on sites, and by supporting workers in need through Case Management and a 24/7 helpline.
The MATES initiative for tradies raises awareness and builds resilience in the construction industry by promoting help seeking and help offering behaviours, we are building the capacity for workers to support and look after each other.
