MATES in July
MATES in July – Our new Field Officers Ben and Erin
Mates in Construction NZ would like to introduce you to our newest team members Field Officers Ben Morunga-Toi and Erin Witana.
Ben and Erin are looking forward to engaging with everyone across the industry as they start to deliver the MATES suicide prevention programme with GAT’s and Toolbox talks.
MATES in July – MATES big South Island Trip
Kick off! Richard and Slade were both smashing through the GAT’s during their time down under. A big thank you to, Clearwater Construction Ltd, Miles Construction Ltd and Home NZ for being such awesome hosts.
In our short stay, we have trained over 470 workers in our General Awareness Programme and a further 42 Connectors, who re now equipped with the tools to be able to offer support whilst connecting to help.
Thank you to everyone that has been so kind to us down South, Central Lakes Safety Charter in Queenstown, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, Jobs and Skills Hub and Naylor Love in Dunedin, and NZISM, Miles Construction Ltd. Home NZ and Clearwater Construction Ltd in Christchurch.
You have opened your doors to welcome MATES into your organisations and we will be back very soon. Stronger Together.
MATES in July – MATES first ASIST
A big milestone for MATES in Construction last Friday when we held our very first industry Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST). This means we now have sixteen industry workers equipped with the skills to be able to intervene and help prevent the immediate risk of suicide and also know how to create a safe plan whilst connecting to help.
“The ASIST course was a great learning experience for myself. I believe it’s a skill everyone should have, industry or not.”
A huge shout out to everyone that participated so willingly in the programme over the two days. Thank you to Caroline and Gary from A-OK who facilitated the programme.
